"Special to You" presents a kaleidoscopic pattern resembling a flower, flattened onto a chequerboard background. Daniel Sturgis works with an established repertoire of shapes and colours, which he plays with to produce associations in the mind of the viewer. He is interested in the relationships between abstraction and decoration. Once the preserve of a cultural, modernist elite, abstraction is now familiar to most of us through the world of graphic design. Sturgis graduated with a masters degree from Goldsmiths College in London in 1994.
