Les Deux shows two spindly bronze hares, one balanced precariously on the other, like a pair of acrobats. Barry Flanagan is known for his sculptures of hares endowed with human characteristics. He often shows them engaged in some sort of activity, continuing the established tradition of investing animals with human attributes to express something about the human condition. While they are humorous, his sculptures of hares in bronze also debunk the notion of a direct relationship between the material (the traditionally "serious" bronze) and the subject matter (the light-hearted escapades of anthropomorphic hares).
