Very little is known about, the artist of this painting, other than it is believed to have been painted by an artist who was associated with the circle of James C. Tarr. He was a painter, sculptor and teacher born in Oystermouth, Swansea, who in the early 20th century, studied at Cheltenham School of Art and at the Royal College of Art, London. He later enjoyed a successful career in teaching art until his retirement in 1970.
