  • About the artist
    A major British Pop artist, Peter Phillips was born in Birmingham and studied at the city’s College of Art (1955–59) and at the Royal College of Art, London (1959–62). As a student, he participated in group shows and in 1964, moved to New York on a Harkness Fellowship. His first solo show was held in New York a year later. In 1966 he moved to Zurich where he still lives today. Phillips became Guest Professor at the Hochschule für Bildende Kunst in Hamburg (1968–69). His first London solo show was at the Waddington Galleries (1976) and in 1982, a touring retrospective opened at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. Phillips has exhibited work around the world. In 2009 he was commissioned to make a painting for the 2010 World Cup.
