Bedwyr Williams was born in St Asaph, North Wales, in 1974, and grew up in Colwyn Bay. He completed a BA in Fine Art at Central St Martins in 1997 and an MA at Ateliers, Arnhem. After a period in London, he returned to Wales to live and work in Caernarfon. He was awarded the Paul Hamlyn Award for Visual Art in 2004. Solo exhibitions include The Jinx, 1857, Oslo (2010); Nimrod, Ceri Hand Gallery, Liverpool (2009); Methodist to my Madness, The Bakery, Annet Gelink, Amsterdam (2009); and No More Mr Nice Guy, Store Gallery, London (2008). In 2012 Williams had a solo exhibition, My Bad, at the Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, presented by Ikon and Glynn Vivian Gallery, Swansea, which toured to Mission Gallery, Swansea. In the same year, he had a group exhibition at the Kunstverein Bonn, Germany, and a solo exhibition, Dear Both, at the Ceri Hand Gallery, London (2012). In 2013, Bedwyr Williams represented Wales in an official Collateral Event at the 55th International Art Exhibition, Venice Biennale.
