Born in Hertfordshire, Vicken Parsons studied at the Slade School of Fine Art (1975–79). She began exhibiting her work in solo and group shows in 1980, including in 1996, 'Tape/Slide', a commission for the Whitechapel Gallery; and 'Inside Walls' at the A22 Gallery, London in 1999. In the past, she has also occasionally collaborated with her husband and fellow artist, Antony Gormley. Since 2002, Parsons has shown her work across the UK and Europe, with solo exhibitions in Vienna, London, Ghent, Madrid, Cambridge and Paris. Her major solo exhibition, 'Iris' was held at the Alan Cristea Gallery, London, in 2016. Parsons's works are represented in several major public collections including the Arts Council Collection, Tate and the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh.
