Anthony Green, the narrative and figurative painter, studied at the Slade School of Art in London between 1956 and 1960. Between 1967 and 1969 he was a recipient of the Harkness Fellowship, allowing him to travel extensively in the USA and live in Leonia, New Jersey, and Altadena, California. Green was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1971 and in 1977 was awarded the prize for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition Exhibit of the Year. He was elected a full Royal Academician in the same year. His often autobiographical paintings are represented in many public collections including the Tate, London.
