Born in Ibadan, Nigeria, in 1936, Folarin was a master sculptor, as well as a graphic artist, muralist and painter. He exhibited in London in the 1960s and early 1970s. Folarin was a founding member of the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) where he taught; his many sculptural works and murals are found all over its campus. He died in the UK in 2010. Known for his groundbreaking work with metal sculpture, Folarin was among the first contemporary Nigerian artists who explored welded metal for the production of sculptures.
