Explore: Jennifer Durrant

(1942 - )

Born in Brighton, painter and teacher Jennifer Durrant studied at Brighton College of Art and the Slade School of Art, London. She exhibited her work at the John Moores exhibition in Liverpool in 1970. Four years later, she had a solo show at the Serpentine Gallery, London. She has held teaching posts at the Royal College of Art, Chelsea School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools. In 2000 Durrant, after marrying writer Richard Oxby, moved to Umbria in Italy, where she now lives and works. The colours and sounds of the Umbrian landscape continue to inspire Durrant’s evocative abstract compositions. In 2005 and 2008, exhibitions of her Italian-inspired work were held at Art First in London.
