As two cattle rest on a riverbank, a woman herder has apparently approached to move them on. The surrounding landscape is painted in the artist’s typically muted tones, predominately grey-browns and umber. The scene, which includes a gnarled tree and the ruins of an Italianate building, is bathed in a soft, warm light.
