Anne Carney Raines’ background in scenic painting and fabrication informs her art practice, where she explores ideas of transitional space and topics around theatre. This painting plays with ideas of the theatre, as a place where the viewer and the theatre company come together to make an imagined space in the mind. The work opens up two types of imagined visual spaces. One is depicted in the scene of the set painting – and the other we gain a sense of with the view of the stairway leading down.
