Haroon Mirza’s ‘painted’ solar panel Energy/Power (Solar Powered LED circuit 36) features animated LEDs, whose sequence varies depending on exhibition to light. Solder splashes on the panel reference the star Sirius and Orion’s belt, transporting the viewer to further realms.

Across his practice, Mirza experiments with light, sound, electricity and other natural elements to create otherworldly compositions that manifest as kinetic sculptures, installations and performances. He describes his role as a composer, manipulating electricity, a live, invisible and volatile phenomenon, to make it dance to a different tune and calling on instruments as varied as household electronics, vinyl and turntables, LEDs, furniture, video footage and existing artworks to behave differently. Processes are left exposed and sounds occupy space in an unruly way, testing codes of conduct and charging the atmosphere.
