Untitled is one of three paintings by Vicken Parsons in the Government Art Collection. Low-key and minimalist in feeling, each inhabits a space somewhere between pure abstraction and landscape. In the work featured here, an arrangement of lines and blocks of colour creates the impression of a corner of an uninhabited room. Often painted in thin layers of muted oil paint on wooden board, Parsons’ paintings capture architectural elements and motifs. She describes her inspiration for these paintings deriving from real and imagined places and spaces often half-remembered or recalled later in time.

In the past, she has also occasionally collaborated with her husband and fellow artist, Antony Gormley. Since 2002, Parsons has shown her work across the UK and Europe, with solo exhibitions in Vienna, London, Ghent, Madrid, Cambridge and Paris.
