"Pathway through Park" is a view of Victoria Park in Hackney, east London. Mike Silva's intense use of colour forms the impression of sunlight falling through the trees, creating an image of an idyllic English summer afternoon. Silva bases his paintings on photographic images. While at first glance they appear to be realist representations of snapshots, on closer inspection they dissolve into abstract constructions of colour and light. Mike Silva was born in Sweden and studied at Middlesex University and the Royal College of Art in London.
