One of two works by Colin Molyneux in the Government Art Collection, Welsh Mountain Ponies on the Black Mountain is an evocative image set in the landscape of Twyn Llech, or Black Mountain that lies on the Welsh-English border. Part of the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales, this is a striking landscape of hills, waterfalls and caves, popular with tourists.

In this work, Molyneux uses the medium of black and white photography to its full advantage. He captures the deep shadow cast along the side of the mountain, and the gleam of sunlight illuminating the white bodies of the ponies grazing in the foreground.
