This coloured and decorative map shows an early image of North Africa and the Mediterranean as they appeared in the 16th century. It extends from Morocco and the Sahara to Libya, showing most of the Mediterranean and including the Balearic Islands, Sicily, Corsica, Sardinia and Italy along the Canaries. It was published in 1590 in Ortelius’ first edition of Theatrum Orbis Terrarum.
